if you have short layers it's pretty easy, i do my hair this way sometimes.
just pull your hair back and let the shorter layers fall out. if they don't fall out naturally just pull the pieces forward before you secure your hair with a ponytail. make sure you have a small side part in your hair and put the ponytail holder on it.
curl the loose pieces. it'll look best if your hair is in a bun or your ponytail is curly.
